Splendor of Okinawa: Shell Ginger, roadside Uruma, 19my25 On 20 May, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prime Minister’s Residence. The Prime Minister apologized, stating, “I can’t express my regrets enough to the entire people of Okinawa over what was stated. As leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), I extend my sincerest apology.” The prime minister seemed to have in mind the statements by LDP House of Councilors Member Shoji Nishida that the explanatory plaque on the Himeyuri Monument, which commemorates the souls of students who became victims of the Okinawa Campaign, were somehow a “rewriting of history”.  Governor Tamaki had visited the Prime Minister’s Residence to present Kariyushi Shirts, the Okinawan formal wear for summer, to the Prime Minister and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi.
