Regarding its timing, Governor Denny Tamaki confirmed his plan, on 1 March, to target the system’s introduction for mid-2024, in answer to queries during the opening of the general question session of the February 2024 Regular Prefectural Assembly. Then, it will be possible to issue a certificate acknowledging a gay couple’s relationship as corresponding to marriage, even apart from the cities of Naha and Urasoe, where the system has already been introduced.
