On the morning of 4 March, Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki stated, “Until the cause of its problems have been thoroughly investigated, I don’t think there’s a possibility of repairs. I think it would be best to abandon their deployment.” Last November, 8 crew members were killed in a US Airforce CV22 Osprey crash in the offing of Yakushima. After that crash, the US Military grounded its Ospreys worldwide. The Ground Self Defense Force has grounded its Ospreys as well.
