A recent report claims that the US Military transport V22 Osprey vertical takeoff and landing transport aircraft are expected to be released from the hold on their flights.
On the morning of 4 March, Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki stated, “Until the cause of its problems have been thoroughly investigated, I don’t think there’s a possibility of repairs. I think it would be best to abandon their deployment.”
Last November, 8 crew members were killed in a US Airforce CV22 Osprey crash in the offing of Yakushima. After that crash, the US Military grounded its Ospreys worldwide. The Ground Self Defense Force has grounded its Ospreys as well.
The US Airforce Special Ops Command announced that it had identified the faulty equipment that caused the accident. However, the details have not been confirmed. According to American media, the faulty equipment is rumored to possibly be the gearbox.
On 1 March, AP News reported that the US Defense Department would soon lift the grounding order. On that day, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had a conference with the commanders of the Navy and Airforce. It seems a plan was approved to lift the grounding order. This week, the US Military Command will visit the Japanese government.
Governor Tamaki pointed out, “From the start, I was opposed to the deployment of Ospreys in Okinawa. I wonder if it wouldn’t be better to quickly retire them and take them back to their own country. A defective gearbox is fundamentally a manufacturing problem. so, wouldn’t you think it could be simply fixed?” The governor then added, ”I think that, until the cause is thoroughly investigated, the prudent judgment seems to be to not let them fly.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
