Splendor of Okinawa: Bauhinia, roadside Uruma, 14de22 The National Government has made a Cabinet decision on the scope of Article 3 of the US-Japan Security Treaty. On the news, Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki published his comments on 16 December, “Boosting deterrence through military strength, this just heightens regional concerns. I’m worried it will engender unpredictable outcomes.” A plan is clearly on record to push the reinforcement of the organizational strength of the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) based in the prefecture. So, the governor expressed his intention of requesting the Government to set up an opportunity for detailed explanation and cooperation. Governor Tamaki added, “On top of having the US bases centralized in Okinawa, inviting conditions for it to become the target of an attack is totally unacceptable.” He requested that the Government work with him toward the relief of tensions and building of trust through peaceful diplomacy and dialogue with neighboring nations....
