Comment of the mayor of Ginowan, where Futenma Airfield is located, on the governor’s redesign rejection, “I can only feel regret.” (26no21)

Speaking in Naha to the press corps on 25 November, Ginowan Mayor Masanori Matsugawa commented on Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki’s rejection of permission for the design changes requested for the Henoko landfill, “ I can only feel regret that the date for the return (to Okinawan control) of Futenma Airfield will be prolonged.” Mayor Matsugawa pointed out that if the relocation of the base within the prefecture is not accepted, in addition to showing an acknowledgement  that the Futenma return will be difficult, “With the delay crimes and accidents will continue, and even springs and wells within the base can’t be inspected.”

He further commented on the fierce standoff between the National Government and the Prefecture, “Looking forward to next year’s fiftieth anniversary of Okinawa’s return to Japan, I’m worried about the decision on the next Okinawa Promotion Plan and the compilation of the budget. The timing of the rejection was not very good.”

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format.
