Restrictions in the case of widespread Covid-19 to include even a halt to Okinawa’s “Discover the Splendor” business. (28de21)

At a press conference on 27 December, Governor Denney Tamaki discussed the “Okinawa, Discover the Splendor Campaign, meant to stimulate demand for regional tourism by subsidizing a portion of travel expenses. He pointed out that he is considering restrictive measures in case the Covid-19 situation worsens in the prefecture.


In response to the infectious conditions, three tiers of restriction standards will be established. Although the restrictions are just for guidance, there may be cases where businesses are shut down quickly in view of the infectious conditions.


For the first tier, the prefecture is divided into three zones: Okinawa Island, Miyako and Yaeyama. Within the jurisdiction of each health department, the use of the campaign will be shut down if the number of Covid-19 cases in their region surpasses 25 out of 100,000 people. The campaign cannot be used for travel to the shutdown region or even within the island.


For the second tier, new campaign sales will be halted if, throughout the prefecture, the number of cases passes 15 per 100,000 people, an average of over 32 per day, or the number of hospital beds in use surpasses 20 percent. 


In the third tier, the campaign will be shut down if the cases rise to 25 per 100,000, an average of 53 per day, or the rate of full hospital beds passes 50 percent throughout the prefecture.

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format.
