Governor requests the Cabinet Minister for Okinawa to look into extending the specially discounted fares on the Okinawa Expressway for one year. (13mr22)

(TOKYO) Okinawa Prefecture is requesting an extension of the system of specially discounted fares on the Okinawa Expressway. On 8 March, Governor Denny Tamaki made  clear that he had a forward looking answer from Cabinet Minister for Okinawa Kosaburo Nishime targeting a one year extension. Facing the expiration of the current system at the end of this month, Governor Tamaki had submitted a documented request for a 3 year extension to Cabinet Minister for Okinawa Nishime at a meeting on that and other topics the same day.


According to Governor Tamaki, Minister Nishime acknowledged the significance of the system and is looking forward to extending it until the end of March 2023, noting, “The system is making a contribution to the socio-economic activities of the people of the prefecture.” So, he laid out his plans to get cooperation from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Tetsuo Saito, who manages the system. The governor said Minister Nishime later commented on the extension, “I want to go on working together as best we can, as always, to get this done.”

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format.
