The National government has produced a plan for revising its grasp on the total number of Covid-19 victims on the judgment of prefectural level entities. Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki offered his response to the plan’s possibility at a press conference on 26 August. He stated, “We’ll prudently consider it.”

On 27 August, the governor held a meeting of experts. Based on the opinions of the members, he will make his judgments. The governor stated, “We’ve been shown the settled national plan. But it’s essential to confirm it by going over the details.”

The Ministry of Labor and Health has offered the new plan for reporting, to the extent possible, Covid-19 outbreaks among people at high risk of the disease, such as the elderly, by prefectural level entities. As soon as within this month, the names of prefectural level entities that have suitably applied for the plan will be published and the plan may possibly be put in action.

Prefectural Department of Public Health Chief Itokazu pointed out the problem that even among the Covid victims, those who need notification and those who don’t will have to be divided, causing difficulties in health care admissions and concerns over following up on inquiries. Chief Itokazu stated, “I’d like to make a judgment after hearing opinions from our expert members on how we can suitably follow the plan.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

  1. This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

  2. Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

  3. Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
