The Naha Port and Bay Facility (Naha Military Port) is to be relocated to Ginowan. The Defense Ministry has submitted a proposed plan for a military port in the shape of a “T”. The Prefecture is making the final adjustments for its application. According to informed sources, each municipal body has been advised that on 25 October the “Relocation Coordination Committee” will hold its meeting. The Defense Ministry organized the committee with the Prefecture, Naha and Ginowan cities, and the Naha Port Administration Association.
The Prefecture is proceeding with adjustments to show the intention of the application in accord with exchanges of opinion with the Coordinating Committee. The Prefecture will also soon explain the scheme to the ruling party of the Prefectural Assembly.
Governor Denny Tamaki held his scheduled press conference on the morning of 21 October and took questions on the Relocation Coordination Committee meeting. He stated, “The timing of the meeting just now was planned by the Defense Ministry. We ourselves are thinking how to proceed while carefully confirming the application.” Moreover, as to the certainty of the final application, he stated,”We would like to get long-term confirmation from the Relocation Coordination Committee on the connecting roadways, the layout, and such,” in expressing his thinking on confirmation of the long-term layout.
There is some opposition to the relocation within the Prefectural Assembly ruling party members. Addressing this problem, the governor responded, “From the majority of members of the ruling party, I have received an understanding of my thinking toward the relocation of the Military Port. I acknowledge that there are different opinions among the various factions. So, I’m going to politely explain and cooperate. I would like to work to maintain a relationship where we can get enough understanding among ourselves.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
