Prior caution evoked for full Covid-19 countermeasures by Governor Denny Tamaki ahead of the World-wide Uchina-nchu (Ryukyuan: Okinawan) Festival expected to bring the prefecture in excess of 5,000 visitors from overseas from 30 October. (28oc22)

Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki held a press conference on 27 October at the Prefectural Office. He evoked measures for thorough caution against Covid-19 in conjunction with the opening of the World-wide Uchina-nchu Festival from 30 October. Over 5,000 visitors from overseas with a connection to the prefecture are expected to travel to Okinawa for the festival.

Governor Tamaki called for awareness and such, “Because of increased contact opportunities, the risk of Covid transmission is high. People have scheduled attendance and plan to interact with relatives and friends. I’d like them to try to keep track of their health and take care of their physical condition.” Moreover, in view of the coming winter season, the governor is worried about Covid and influenza spreading at the same time, as well as the constriction of facilities in health care provision.

Prefectural Public Health Care Director Itokazu stated, “When viewing the situation within the prefecture, influenza has yet to become a factor. Instructions are coming down from the National Government for a plan to be put in place that can prevent the spread of both the flu and Covid. From now we want to consider it.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

  1. This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

  2. Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

  3. Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
