Preparations are underway today, 29 October, for the curtain to rise tomorrow on the 7th World-wide Uchina-nchu Festival, with welcoming at its peak for participants arriving in Okinawa. 


On the 29th, about 800 participants from Hawaii, the largest number of participants ever from that region, are scheduled to arrive in Okinawa.  At around 3 p.m., about 200 of them arrived by chartered plane at Naha Airport. A welcome ceremony was held for them at Yuinichi (Ryukuan: Wellness) Plaza in the airport. Relatives living in Okinawa and people from the festival gave them an exuberant welcome. Chairman of the Hawaii-Okinawa Federation David Jones offered their greeting, “Thank you for your warm welcome. We feel pride as people with our roots in Okinawa.”


Hawaii Governor David Ige, who is 3rd generation Okinawan, arrived in Okinawa the same day to attend the festival. He received a welcome at Naha Airport from Governor Denny Tamaki. Governor Ige stated, “I’m attending for the first time with my children. They will really enjoy the various events at this Uchina-nchu Festival.” Governor Tamaki responded with the welcome, “Please pass an absolutely wonderful time here together with your family!”


According to the festival office, 2345 participants from 20 foreign countries and one region are scheduled to attend the festival. Starting with the Festival Eve Parade on 30 October, the opening ceremonies will be held at Okinawa Cellular Stadium in Naha on 31 October.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

Governor Denny receives the report on JUNGLIA at the 4 month mark after its opening. (7de25)

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format.
