Indexes under review for Covid-19 alert level to Extraordinary Situation Declaration as the hospital beds in use rate surpasses 50%. (1no22)

Splendor of Okinawa: Lysimachia, roadside Uruma, 29no22

On 30 November, Okinawa Prefecture announced new indexes for judging the alert level to counter the omicron strain of Covid-19. The hospital bed use rate basically has 4 levels. In order to avoid a bed use rate of 80% at level 4, where the health care facilities are insufficient, requests for cooperation will be issued to prefectural residents, businesses, and others at level 3, when 50% is surpassed, the point of increased burden on the healthcare system.

Until now, there have been no activity restrictions as in an Emergency Situation Declaration. Because of that, the Prefecture may issue a “Declaration to strengthen measures to avoid stress on the health care system” or a “Health care extraordinary situation declaration”, to address necessities due to the level 3 stage.

So, the Prefecture may request self-restraint in leaving home, time limits on events, and such. The new judgment indexes will not affect just the hospital bed use rate. Emergencies, as well as in- and out-patient and other services that are shown to burden the health care, are part of the stress on hospitals.

Under consideration, also, is “increased unemployment”, which affects both social and economic life. Such matters have no statistical standards. So, they will be confirmed with the opinions of the Contagion Prevention Experts Commission and business groups.

In addition, the wide-spread contagion among new victims needs to be addressed. RADECO is a program for the free distribution of antigen kits to elementary, junior and senior high students. From mid-December, preschoolers will be included in the program. Moreover, from March, vaccinations will begin in vaccination centers across the prefecture with the “Anti BA 4-5  Vaccine.”

The Prefecture also announced a change in the reception phone number for recording positive victims.

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

  1. This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

  2. Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

  3. Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
