(TOKYO) On 26 December, Governor Denny Tamaki visited the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). He held discussions with MEXT Assistant Vice-Minister Yoshinori Hakui. The governor plans to establish an evening middle school with the Sango-sha High School Division of Sousei-sha Education Foundation. So, he requested an easing of the establishment standards.
According to Governor Tamaki, Vice-Minister Hakui expressed his forward-looking consideration of setting up an evening middle school in the prefecture. He had explained, “Even without relaxing standards, carrying them out flexibly is quite possible.”
Governor Tamaki brought up Sousei-sha’s request for permission for the project. The vice-minister explained, “I’ve seen the “unacceptable” report from the Private School Inspection Committee and have replied to it.” Moreover, he added, “I’ve requested that, in the case of a true necessity, the committee should recognize flexibility in practical application to ease establishment standards.”
Vice-minister Hakui further explained that there is a correct way of documenting the establishment of a middle school. There are such considerations as the actual regional conditions with special situations. If it is not a case of educational impediments, practical implementation can be flexible. On the topic of setting up evening middle schools, he stated, “As this is the first case, we’re paying close attention. Coming to grips with it is significant for both the Prefecture and MEXT.
The governor said the vice-minister expressed his consideration hereafter of publishing reports that MEXT gets on evening middle school experiences from across the Nation.
On 26 December also, Governor Tamaki held a discussion at the Cabinet Office with Cabinet Minister Charged with Okinawa Naoki Okada. The budget proposal for Okinawa has been compiled and its tax system measures have been extended. So, the governor conveyed his thanks to the minister. The governor also conveyed his intention of again requesting a government response in the new year to the sudden rise in the price of electricity.

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
