Vice Chair of the Prefectural Assembly Moriyuki Teruya (67) has a history in positions such as chair of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Okinawa Prefectural Federation and its secretary general.
Nonetheless, on 22 March, he resigned from the LDP. The Prefectural LDP’s Chair Hiroki Nakada accepted the notice the same day. Representative Teruya explained his reasons for leaving the party, “By resigning, I can reconcile with myself.” On his political situation henceforth, he stated, “Even though I’ve resigned from the party, I’ll stick to my basic conservative philosophy.”
On 20 March, Representative Teruya submitted his resignation notice to LDP Prefectural Federation Secretary General Dai Shimabukuro. It was passed on and received by the Party Secretariat President Seigi Matayoshi.
For our reporting, Representative Teruya stressed, “In what way can we make our Prefectural Administration better? What can we do to get to a solution to our local Uruma City problems? Those are matters I’m going to put my efforts into. That’s what I’ll be consumed with.”
Representative Teruya was also asked about his thoughts on allying with another faction, now that he is a partyless member of the Prefectural Assembly. He answered, “Now I’m a clean slate.” The representative avoided clarity about his thoughts on running independently for a 6th term in the 2024 Prefectural Assembly Election or his stance on supporting someone in the next Diet House of Representatives Election, simply quipping, “That's for later”
The Prefectural LDP is scanning Representative Teruya’s words and actions before and after his defection from their party. The party secretariat has been brought up and discussions over his treatment were ongoing.
An LDP Prefectural Assembly member warned about Representative Teruya, “He has projected that he’s been taking note of Governor Denny Tamaki’s high reputation in the Prefectural Assembly and gotten closer to the Unaffiliated Faction. We’ll want to keep a sharp eye on him from here on in.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
