(NANJO) On 27 March, Okinawa Prefecture and Nanjo City confirmed a disaster prevention pact to use a corner of a public parking lot ( adjacent to Nanjo City Hall (a location established for tourist promotion) as a forward base for helicopter refueling in times of disaster. On the same day, Governor Denny Tamaki and Nanjo City Mayor Keishun Koja signed the pact documents at Nanjo City Hall.


The forward base location will be in the “Nanjo Tourist Promotion Facility D Block” on the south side of the parking lot. Except for airport facilities, this will be the first location in the prefecture where helicopters carrying out disaster work will be able to refuel.


Governor Tamaki noted thankfully, “We can’t do without our rescue helicopters, ambulances, fire trucks, and other transport for activities to counter disasters. It’s truly heartening that we can confirm this pact with Nanjo City.”


Mayor Koja responded, “For the sake of protecting the lives of the people of this city and our prefecture and of their property, I’m absolutely delighted that we can strengthen our disaster prevention response. I want to work in cooperation with the Prefecture on our complete disaster prevention activities.”


On 28 March, the Prefecture and Ryuseki Co. (President: Haruo Tome) will transport helicopter fuel to the forward base and confirm their agreement on its continued supply.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format.
