Masako Ganaha again speaks in opposition, “Governor Tamaki supports the work of separation!” (22se23)

At the UN Human Rights Council in session in Geneva, Switzerland, Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki made a speech criticizing the Japanese Government.

Native Okinawan Journalist Masako Ganaha approached the Sankei Shimbun to offer this brutally critical comment, “His actions support the propaganda for the separation of Okinawa from Japan proper!”

At the 2015 UN Human Rights Council, former Governor Takeshi Onaga also spoke asserting such criticism as, “The Okinawan people are being denied their right to self-determination and other human rights!”

Journalist Ganaha is well know for her speech countering Governor Onaga the very next day at the UN Human rights Council, claiming, “As a part of Japan, we, the people of our prefecture enjoy the highest level of human rights in the world, plus high quality education, prosperity, medical services, and livelihood. Please, in no way, believe the Onaga propaganda!”

This time Journalist Ganaha targeted Governor Tamaki with her response against his speech, “This time Governor Tamaki spoke using an NGO forum to plead that the people of Okinawa Prefecture are an indigenous people. In that public venue, he stated actions which support propaganda for his plan to separate Okinawa from our homeland Japan. But, while former Governor Takeshi Onaga piled his speech with words like self-determination, highly affiliated with indigenous peoples, Tamaki didn’t use such phrases. That’s because the idea of being an indigenous tribe doesn’t sink in at all with our prefecture’s people, but on the other hand, his protest activity might carry some weight. However, what ought to be the most important problem for Okinawa isn’t really about being for or against bases. The phrase goes, ‘Divide and rule!’. We ought to beware of going down his path of action to divide us from our homeland Japan. We must not forget that it’s China who’s behind all this!”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
