While considering requests for grants, issues have arisen over continued misses and ineptitude at the Prefecture.
We learned on 23 October of inappropriate accounting practices in operational measures against Covid-19, even in the new Public Health Bureau. Moreover, it was confirmed that, in the operation of Covid-19 checks, completed forms were lost and there were possible leaks of personal information.
The Prefecture planned to make these scandals public at the final September scheduled plenary session of the Prefectural Assembly on the afternoon of 23 October. Moreover, at that plenary session of the Assembly, voting was scheduled on a proposal for a censure motion requesting Governor Denny Tamaki’s repentance for his words, actions, and administrative management.
However, at the very opening of the session, Okinawa Liberal Democratic Party Representative Dai Shimabukuro requested an explanation of the scandals and asked that a meeting of the Culture, Education and Health Committee be held. So, in order to discuss how to handle the request, the Prefectural Assembly is now in recess.
The improper accounting practices involved the administration of treatment lodging facilities. In adjusting the accounts and such covering the fiscal year, National Treasury grants were possibly not targeted for one part of them. The general affairs section reported the issue up the ladder at the Prefecture on 25 September.
In addition, documents related to essential worker PCR checks between September 2022 and March 2023 were lost. Files recording the personal information of 179 people were stored in the desk drawer of the person responsible. But it seems that, in October of this year, that person discovered that their whereabouts were unknown and reported it to superiors
The scandals at the Prefecture just go on and on, as more and more voices seem to be on the rise for investigations into the governor and his executive group in the Prefecture.

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
