The governor ended his Taiwan trip, as one element of his regional diplomacy, on the morning of 27 November. After his return from the trip, which lasted from 23 to 25 November, on his first way back to work at the Prefectural Office, Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki spoke to the press corps. He expressed his satisfaction with the visit, “Considering the timing, it was an especially good Taiwan trip.” He also emphasized the trip’s success, noting, “I was greeted enthusiastically by each and every group and we were able to exchange ideas.”

The governor expressed his wishes for regional diplomacy with each East Asian nation, such as the Philippines and Singapore, joined in ASEAN, the association of  East Asian countries, noting, “As soon as possible, I’m considering making as many visits as I can.”

Among the governor’s visits in Taiwan were  the computer manufacturer TCA (Computex Taipei) and the economic group, National Industrial Assembly of the Republic of China.

Although the governor’s visits centered on meetings with the business world, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Japan discouraged such visits, noting, “We are vehemently opposed to each and every form of public travel between Japan and Taiwan!”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
