Opposition to the new base resolved anew, Governor Tamaki proclaims, “This rally condenses our thoughts”, and, “No matter how difficult, we shall endure!” (25no23)

Before going off on his Taiwan visit, Governor Denny Tamaki hustled to the rally site decked out in his Yonaguni woven flower-patterned kariyushi (Okinawa designed) shirt of yellow, the color shared by those sensing the crisis of war.
As the governor mounted the stage to applause and finger-whistling, he gazed across the participants assembled under the blue sky, and then greeted them in Ryukyuan, “Achisaibinya-! Chu-ganabira sai! (It’s hot! It’s great to see you all today).” Referring to the art event that he had attended in the rally site before mounting the stage, the governor applauded the participants, “This rally has concentrated the thoughts and feelings of young people and multitudes of others.”
During his speech of about 5 minutes, the word ‘absurdity’ was repeated 3 times. The governor brought up Okinawa’s history during the Battle of Okinawa and its US Military rule. He noted that, although 51 years had passed since its Reversion to Japan, the excessive burden of US Military bases and other problems remain in Okinawa. The governor emphasized the importance of his words with his tone, “We can’t let the future of our children be a future of war. We can’t have a future of anxiety.”
Moreover, the governor added his thoughts on his own confrontation with the Government over the new base construction at Henoko. He nailed it all together promising, “No matter how tough each and every day may be, I’m here to see it through.” He added, again in Ryukyuan, “Majun, Chibati-, chibaranaya- sai! (All of us together, we’ll see it through!)”
After the governor’s speech was over, he spoke with fervor to the press corps, “While in Taiwan, I want to convey my strong conviction that Okinawa does not intend to let Asia be a battleground!”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
