Governor Denny appraises the declared demand for a “Reversion to a blank sheet” of the Prefectural Federation of the LDP in response to the plan for a GSDF training ground in Uruma, Okinawa, as, “An exceptionally prudent judgment!” (29fe24)

Splendor of Okinawa: Madagascar Periwinkle, roadside Uruma, 13fe24

A plan is afloat for the construction of a Ground Self Defense Force (SDF) training ground on the abandoned site of the former Ishikawa Golf Course in Uruma, Okinawa Prefecture.

However, the Okinawa Prefectural Federation of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has declared to the National Government that it will demand the reversion  of the construction plan to a blank sheet, a start from scratch. With that news, on 27 February, Okinawa Prefectural Governor Denny Tamaki stated, “I think that’s an exceptionally prudent judgment!”

At the start of the Prefectural Assembly’s general question session, Dai Shimabukuro, who has been appointed chief secretary of the LDP Federation from the faction chief of the Prefectural Assembly faction of the Okinawa LDP, had declared that impression.

The LDP Prefectural Federation Chief Hiroki Nakata and its Chief Secretary Shimabukuro, on behalf of the Prefectural Federation, in response to  press corps coverage, emphasized once again that they had requested a reversion to a blank sheet on the plan.

Governor Tamaki stated, “The plan is to set up a military training ground in the Ishikawa area of our city of Uruma. This rises above party factionalism. Because a great many of the residents have been raising their voices in opposition, we should be together in listening to them. Saying that the National Government ought to sincerely listen to the voices of the area’s residents, I think, is an exceptionally reasonable consideration.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
