What are Hokkaido resident Mr. Ueda’s thoughts on his purchase of the replica of a ‘wondrous dinosaur’ skeleton as a donation from Hokkaido to Okinawa? (22fe24)

Splendor of Okinawa: Monks Cress, roadside Futenma, 9fe24

A ceremony was held at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum on 20 February for the donation of a replica of the skeletal remains of a kamuysaurus dinosaur, discovered in Hokkaido. Hokkaido resident Hidetaka Ueda (78) purchased and donated the replica to the museum.

The skeletal replica duplicates the fossils of the so-called ‘wondrous dinosaur’, discovered at Mukawa Town in Hokkaido, The preserved fossils of 3 such dinosaurs have been discovered, but this case is special, in that such a large number of fossilized bones were found.

The Tokyo National Museum, was the first to display the skeletal replica outside of Hokkaido. So, the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum will be the second museum to possess it.

When Mr. Ueda was just a baby, he experienced the air-raids of WWll. He said that on his trips to Okinawa Prefecture, the history of the Battle of Okinawa and the excessive burden of Okinawa’s bases brought pain to his heart. He further stated that he had decided on the donation with the thought that he wanted to bring repose and consolation to the souls of the dead and pep up Okinawa with the promotion of its tourism.

Governor Denny Tamaki presented Mr. Ueda with a certificate of gratitude, noting, “You are contributing greatly to the promotion of the educational and cultural progress of our prefecture.”

Denny in the News: news about Governor Denny Tamaki.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving my translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
