Two US Navy MQ4 Triton Surveillance Drones are scheduled to be deployed to the US Military Kadena Air Force Base beginning from this month.


However, one of the Tritons landed at Kadena Air Force Base on the evening of 20 May at around 8:55. The US Navy will temporarily station the aircraft from May until October at Kadena Base.


At a wingspan of about 40 meters, the  giant MQ4 drone is twice as wide as the MQ9. About 50 personnel will complement their deployment.


Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki has requested the revocation of the plan to deploy the MQ4 drones as a further increase in the base burden.


Okinawa City, Kadena Town, and Yomitan Town have created the 3 Municipality Mutual Cooperation Committee for Kadena Air Field. Reporters from this paper on coverage asked its chairman, Okinawa City Mayor Sachio Kuwae about about the MQ4 landing. and he replied, “We will observe its effect intently, in listening to the voices of our local municipalities, with Kadena at their center.


The NOTAM aviation notice as of 17 May reported that from 8:30 on the evening of 20 May until 1:45 on the morning of 21 May, MQ4 flights would take place in the vicinity of Okinawa.


However as of 20 May, the flight schedule had been changed to from 4:30 to 10:45 p.m. that same day


The schedule for dawn Triton flights on 17 May was canceled.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media. 


This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format. In the House of Councilors Election for the Okinawa Election District, independent candidate Sachika Takara (46), endorsed by All Okinawa, which opposes the relocation of the US Military Futenma Airfield in Ginowan to Henoko in Nago, both in Okinawa Prefecture, scored a victory.
