The Defense Ministry has firmed up its plan to deploy an Air Self Defense Force relocatable radar alert system along with its crew to Okinawa Prefecture’s Kita Daito Village.


At his morning press conference on 24 June, Governor Denny Tamaki responded to related press queries, “We haven’t yet  received notice of that matter from the department in charge of the section for base policy. We’d like to confirm the details.”


According to Government sources, an official from the Okinawa Defense Bureau will visit Kita Daito Village on 27 June. It seems that the official is scheduled to formally explain the deployment plan.


Concerning the Self Defense Deployment to Kita Daito Village, the village and the Diet submitted a letter of intent to make an invitation to the Defense Ministry in December of 2021 Last July, the Defense Ministry explained to residents the situation and such for considering the deployment.


The relocatable radar alert system is equipment that can be loaded on a vehicle and can follow the direction of aircraft and ships. The system will be burdened with surveillance for alerts in areas not covered by the fixed radar that has been deployed across the Nation, including Okinawa.

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

Splendor of Okinawa: Temple Tree, Mihama Beach, 1de25 CEO Takeshi Kato of Japan Entertainment (JE), which manages JUNGLIA Okinawa, visited Governor Denny Tamaki at the Prefectural Office on 28 November.  　 The CEO reported on the 4 months since the attraction’s opening. He repeatedly brought up dealing with operational improvements and such based on the voices of visitors to the park.  　 The CEO specifically mentioned the evening concerts in the park’s garden and, starting from December, the free entry of one child with each adult, targeting the prefecture’s people. CEO Kato stated, “We’d like to be contributing to Okinawa’s tourism as well.” Governor Tamaki, alluding to his speech the same day, entitled “Declaration on Sustainable Tourism”, stated, “For the people, employees, and tourists of our prefecture, this is an important win-win format.
