In the wake of the House of Councilors Election, novice candidate Sachika Takara, whose win in the single seat Okinawa Election District has been confirmed, will take on such tasks as “a consideration of tax reduction” and being “Okinawa’s voice for peace. (26jy25)

Splendor of Okinawa: Pepper (the soul of Ryukyu cuisine), 28jy24.

In the House of Councilors Election for the single seat in the Okinawa Election District held on 20 July, Sachika Takara, supported by the forces of All Okinawa, achieved victory. Ms. Sachika Takara (46) is from Naha. Her victory speech follows.

“In my campaign I claimed, ‘We live right in the center of politics!’ I was someone who firmly held the viewpoint of  regular people. So, I am promising to all of you that I will make a reality of a politics that gives life to the views of common people. I realize that a lot of people, with the tribulations of their day to day lives, have entrusted to me their consideration of  tax reductions and thoughts about the temporary gas tax rates.

"My seat in the Diet will earnestly carry the voice of Okinawa toward peace. But of course, I will continue to take care of the trust and the considerations which the people of our prefecture deem important, considering the struggles they’re in. So, I’m also considering how to bear properly such a weight on my shoulders.”

Governor Denny Tamaki, who supported Ms. Takara, was filled with pride over the fact that she had defended the Diet seat of the force of All Okinawa, which has been pointed out as tending toward its ebb.

The governor stated, “All Okinawa has continually been called out as being in decline over its results In various municipal elections recently. However, on the National stage, the result of  thoughts over whether Okinawa Prefecture’s people could plead their case within the Nation is that they are unwavering.

“Ms. Sachika had not appeared actively on the political stage until now. As a result, she was said to be still an unknown at the point when she received the nomination as our candidate. But I think that the topic  which was her greatest starting point was her theme of wanting to solve things anyway she could.

“That’s what she wants,  to plead for us in the National Administration. She asked how she could go about getting that across throughout the election. She took that starting line into her heart and that’s why expectations were so extraordinarily great for Ms. Takara. She took that into her very soul and did her earnest best. Thus,  her wonderful harmony with the voters.”

Denny in the News:

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
