(YAESE) Ballots for the Yaese District Mayoral Election will be opened on 25 January 2026, in tandem with the end of the current mayor’s term.
District Assembly Representative Nobuo Kamiya (65) of the Communist Party firmed up his intention to be a candidate on 27 September. Hereafter, he will formally announce his candidacy.
Assemblyman Kamiya set out his goals, noting, “I will reform the district’s administration. I will make progress on developing our community sewage system and newly establish an integrated primary and middle school. I will bring into reality your requests for peace and against war. I will call for the immediate end to the new base construction at Henoko in Nago and support Governor Denny Tamaki!”
Nobuo Kamiya was born on 3 June 1960 in the district’s Kogusuku section and graduated from the Prefectural Agricultural University. In September of 2017, he was elected to the District Assembly where he has served 3 terms. Since 2022, he has served as the chief of the Assembly’s Southern Water Works Enterprise.
In this district mayoral election, current Mayor Yasuhiro Arakaki (69) will seek a third term, while District Assembly Chief Takako Kamiya (63) has also announced her candidacy.
In August, All Okinawa launched its election selection committee to pick out suitable candidates. The committee is considering Nobuo Kamiya among those to back.

Denny in the News:
Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although Okinawa is important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
