(TOKYO) Leakage occurred from water pipes connecting dams in the Northern areas of Okinawa Island with water purification plants, causing the possibility of water outages spreading across the island.

Responding to queries  on this problem from the press, during his business trip to Tokyo, on the evening of 24 November, Governor Denny Tamaki apologized, saying, “We’re truly sorry for the totally sudden all around  inconvenience to so many of  our prefecture’s people and their  enterprises,” The Prefectural Enterprise Bureau plans to reopen the flow of water to villages and towns affected during the morning of 25 November.

Governor Tamaki assured, “We want to  coordinate closely in our continuing direct directions…We’re asking for your patience with worries and inconvenience for a bit, but we want to take immediate measures to get the water running again.”

The governor also confirmed that, just to be prepared, his Okinawa Prefectural Executive Office, Naha, and other communities, are taking for granted the use of water distribution trucks that they have.

The governor also pointed out that water pipes throughout the prefecture are deteriorating, and he is strongly considering a firm request for a budget for replacing them from the National Government.

The governor further noted, “From the standpoint of protecting the livelihoods of our prefecture’s people, I want to firmly ask the National Government for whatever must be requested.”

Denny in the News:

Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
