At Ougami Village in Okinawa, a widespread water leakage occurred. Moreover, centered in the south  central district, water outages are expected.

Starting at 5 p.m. on the evening of 24 November, a meeting of the Danger Management Headquarters (chair: Governor Denny Tamaki) was held. Business Bureau Chief Tsutomu Miyagi explained the situation of countermeasures, while apologizing repeatedly to the prefecture’s people.

Chief Miyagi stated that in order to make construction repairs on the deteriorated water lines, eyes are on shutting down the water supply at the East Line Conduit Tunnel.

In addition, he confirmed that work was continuing toward supplying water by laying a 1350 millimeter pipe, which will lie alongside the deteriorated and leaking existing 1 meter water pipe. The aim is to quickly resume the water supply by integrating the two systems. The exact time of water supply resumption is yet to be determined, and the restrictions on Prefectural Route 9 have been rescinded.

According to the Environmental Department, the Hija River Administrative Union is considering cancellation of activities on 25 November at its incineration facility that uses water for cooling waste, Both Kadena and Yomitan are making a judgment on canceling garbage collection.

The Board of Education will cancel school lunches on 25 November, and has given notice that some schools will only hold classes in the morning.

The Enterprise Bureau and Naha Airport Buildings Corporation (NABCO: President Yoshimitsu Teruya) have expressed their plan to temporarily shut down food services tenants, if there is a water outage on 25 November. Supplying water to aircraft and such will be prioritized.

Governor Tamaki was away on business, but attended the meeting online. He requested that all department heads coordinate closely with communities.

Denny in the News: Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
