Nagano Prefecture Mayor Shuichi Abe held a press conference on 25 December at the Prefectural Office. He expressed his concept there of reviving discussions of utilizing the positioning of Prefectural managed Matsumoto Airport as a “bustling hub” of commerce.
The governor noted, “Matsumoto Daira Regional Park is in the vicinity, along with excellent scenic spots. I’d like to have discussions on the suitability of placing this added responsibility on our airport.” With the New Year in view, he touched on Matsumoto Airport in speaking of the Prefectural Administration’s future prospects.
In addition to dealing with the completion of the airport’s construction, the governor noted, “I have this gnawing sense of wondering if our concept of building our Matsumoto Airport ‘only for people using planes’ is good enough. I’d like to get around to considering how the area of our Matsumoto Airport site can be put to use.”
Concerning the utilization of the Airport, the governor is going to put his efforts into upgrading domestic routes, expanding international charter flights, and continuing collaboration with Okinawa, noting, “The numbers of scheduled flight users and their rate of use is bullishly transforming. I want to link this strength to an even further increase in flights”
On 19 December in Nagano City, the Okinawa Tourism Thanksgiving Gathering took place. With it in mind, Governor Abe introduced Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki’s proposal, who had stated there, “I’d like to carry inbound tourists through Okinawa to Nagano Prefecture.”
The governor added, “The image is a bit future oriented. But, we can actually make it take form, I’d like to get it done with the airline companies, our local people, those related, and all of us working together!”

Denny in the News: Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.
This blog hopes to translate one news article a day on the governor. It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.
Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.
Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
