Okinawa governor claims peace studies will continue, “People shall not be deprived of belief in its concepts!” (23my26)

The Ministry of Education and Science has judged that a studies program of Doshisha International High School (Kyoto Prefecture), during which boats capsized in the offing at Henoko in Nago, violated political neutrality.

On 22 May, Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki made clear his thinking that hereafter, as well, he will continue opportunities for peace studies. On an official visit  to the Prime Minister’s residence, he stressed to the press squad, “Peace education ought to be carried out fairly and justly, without depriving people of the belief in its concepts. Hereafter, as well, I want to proceed in accord with such a policy.”

As for the Ministry of Education and Science’s judgment, the governor left it noting, “I think that after the investigation has shone light on the matter, there’ll be a statement.”

Denny in the News: Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
