“Yutabon”, a former dropout now a YouTuber, updated his X account with a new post on 3 June 2026. In it he criticized Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki, regarding a post on Note from the bereaved parents of a victim in the Henoko offing boat accident, accusing the governor of making statements “Without even looking at their post”, adding, “Although the situation and their thoughts were written on Note for him!”

Students from Doshisha International High School visiting Okinawa on a study tour became victims in a boating accident in the offing at Henoko. On 31 May, the father of a school girl killed in the accident posted comments on Note, such as, “If Okinawa Prefecture uses peace education materials about the relocation of a base to Henoko, that are aimed at high school students, does Governor Denny Tamaki endorse how they are dealt with and how the course is designed?”

According to a report in Sankei Shimbun, Governor Tamaki stated on 2 June, “Even though I haven’t seen that particular post, I have heard  such statements and questions.”

In response to that statement, “Yutabon” pointed out, “In the midst of their pain over the death of their high school girl, her parents wrote out the situation and their thoughts for the governor, yet Okinawa Prefecture Governor Denny Tamaki didn’t even glance at their post on Note!”

“Yutabon” further criticized the governor, noting, “You really think it’s over, don’t you!”, adding, “I think a guy like you shouldn’t get to be a governor!”

(Trans. Note: My own President is dedicated to keeping up with social media, but I don’t quite grasp the article’s assumption that public officials ought to share his devotion to it.

However, if the bereaved father had sent a letter directly to the governor and it went unanswered, the governor would surely be deemed worthy of criticism.)

Denny in the News: Denny Tamaki is the governor of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Although important as an international tourist destination and a key element in strategic US Military Forces, its governor receives very little coverage in the Japanese press and almost none in the English language media.

This blog hopes to  translate one news article a day on the governor.  It is unsponsored and unauthorized. The translator simply hopes to improve his skills and perhaps give the governor an English speaking audience.

Any suggestion on improving the translation will be gratefully accepted. However, please leave political comments for another forum.

Where they occur, words and phrases in Ryukyuan (the Okinawan language) are rendered in italics and translated in parentheses. Names  whose readings are uncertain are rendered as Name (=Kanji?) as in Nagayuki (=長行?). Any corrections in such instances would be gratefully appreciated.
